LeRoy T. Carlson, Jr. , , , President and CEO

LeRoy T. Carlson, Jr. is president and CEO. Carlson joined the company in 1974 as a vice president. He was named president in 1981 and chief executive officer in 1986. Carlson is also chairman of the board of TDS' publicly traded subsidiary, U.S. Cellular.

Prior to joining TDS, Carlson held several positions with Singer Company. Previously, he was an auditor for Arthur Andersen LLP.

Carlson is a member of the Harvard Club of Chicago and the Harvard Business School Club of Chicago.

Carlson received an MBA from the Harvard Graduate School of Business and a BA from Harvard College.

Dr. Daniel DeWitt , , , Senior Vice President – Human Resources

Dr. Daniel DeWitt became senior vice president of human resources in 2017. DeWitt is a licensed psychologist who specializes in human resources consulting and has more than 30 years of experience providing assessments and coaching to executives from tech startups to Fortune 500 companies. Prior to joining TDS, he served as executive psychologist at Shields Meneley Partners. Prior to that, he has worked in his own consulting practice, and served as the vice president of human resources for HotSamba, a former internet startup. He has held consulting roles with The Garms Group and the Center for Executive Options.

DeWitt earned a BA in Psychology from Northwestern University, an MA in pre-clinical psychology from Ball State University, and a PhD in clinical psychology with an emphasis in organizational psychology from Purdue University.

Joseph R. Hanley , , , Senior Vice President - Technology, Services and Strategy

Joseph R. Hanley is senior vice president - technology, services and strategy. He has a leading role in developing strategy and advancing strategic initiatives at TDS and its business units, U.S. Cellular and TDS Telecom. Hanley also oversees TDS' technology vendor relations and contracts, industry relations and standards, technology and policy support for growth initiatives, and technology strategy. In addition, he is responsible for planning and implementing public policy and regulatory initiatives.

Hanley joined TDS in 1988 and has held a series of positions in engineering, product management and development, customer operations, technology assessment, and strategy formulation. Most recently, he was vice president of technology, planning and services.

Hanley serves on the board of directors and executive committee of ATIS, the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions, and is currently its first vice chairman. He received an MBA from Arizona State University and a BS in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Jane W. McCahon , , , Senior Vice President -- Corporate Relations and Corporate Secretary

Jane W. McCahon is senior vice president of corporate relations and corporate secretary for TDS, a diversified telecommunications services corporation headquartered in Chicago. McCahon oversees the investor relations and corporate governance activities of TDS and its majority-owned, publicly traded subsidiary, U.S. Cellular. She is responsible for day-to-day communications with the investment community and financial media, corporate public relations and employee communications, and the activities of the TDS and U.S. Cellular boards of directors. She is also a member of the Company’s corporate strategy group. McCahon joined TDS in 2009 as vice president of corporate relations, and became corporate secretary in 2013 and was promoted to senior vice president in 2016.

Before joining TDS, McCahon was a principal with Massachusetts-based Conway Communications, which provided investor relations consulting for a diverse range of companies. Prior to that, she was vice president of corporate relations for Eastern Enterprises in Weston, MA, and served as manager of investor relations for Waban, Inc. (now BJ's Wholesale Club).

McCahon is a member and former chair of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI). She is a co-founder and former chair of the NIRI Ethics Council, and has also served on the NIRI Senior Roundtable Steering Committee. In 2011, she was named in the inaugural class as one of eleven NIRI Fellows. NIRI Fellows are recognized leaders who represent the ideals of the investor relations profession. She is also a member of the Society of Corporate Secretaries & Governance Professionals.

McCahon holds a BA in economics and finance from Bentley College, and a JD from Suffolk University Law School.

Peter L. Sereda , , , Senior Vice President - Finance and Treasurer

Peter L. Sereda is senior vice president - finance and treasurer. He is responsible for long- and short-term financing; cash and investment management; commercial and investment bank relationships; risk and pension asset management; and budgeting, planning and analysis. Sereda joined TDS in 1998 as vice president and treasurer.

Prior to joining TDS, Sereda was vice president of finance operations and vice president and treasurer for Specialty Foods Corporation. Previously, he was treasurer of Duchossois Industries, Inc. Sereda is a member of the National Association of Corporate Treasurers; Chi Epsilon, the national civil engineering honor society; Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society; and Beta Gamma Sigma, the honor society serving business programs.

Sereda received an MBA in finance and statistics from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and a BS in civil engineering and economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Douglas D. Shuma , , , Senior Vice President - Finance and Chief Accounting Officer

Douglas D. Shuma is senior vice president - finance and chief accounting officer. He is responsible for the financial reporting, accounting policy and internal controls, and tax functions.

Prior to joining TDS, Shuma owned a consulting company for large, publicly traded corporations. Prior to that, he served as vice president and corporate controller for Baxter International, Inc. for eight years. Shuma was also assistant corporate controller for Caremark International, Inc. for five years, and held positions with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP for nine years.

A certified public accountant, Shuma received an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a BS in accounting science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Kurt B. Thaus , , , Senior Vice President and CIO

Kurt B. Thaus became senior vice president and CIO in 2004. He is responsible for all elements of the company's information technology function.

Thaus joined TDS from T-Systems North America, Inc.,a subsidiary of T-Systems International (Deutsche Telecom), where he served most recently as senior vice president of technology services.

Prior to that, Thaus worked in the corporate and regional offices of Waste Management, Inc., where he developed corporate policy, served as primary negotiator with the U.S. government on regulations, and developed processes and information systems. He was also affiliated with Sargent and Lundy Engineers and Procon, Inc.

Thaus holds an MS in engineering management from Northwestern University and a BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Scott H. Williamson , , , Senior Vice President - Acquisitions and Corporate Development

Scott H. Williamson became senior vice president of acquisitions and corporate development in 1998. His responsibilities include corporate development, and planning and directing the acquisition initiatives of TDS' business units, U.S. Cellular and TDS Telecom. Williamson joined TDS in 1995 as vice president of acquisitions.

Williamson came to TDS from FMC Corporation, where he was vice president of corporate development. Prior to that, he was vice president of acquisitions and development for Itel Corporation. Williamson began his career as special assistant to the chairman at Northwest Industries, where he participated in the restructuring and eventual sale of the company in 1985.

Williamson is a member of the Executive Council of the International Engineering Consortium. He is also a member of the Economic Club of Chicago and its Telecommunications and Information Technology Subcommittee.

Williamson holds a PhD in finance from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management, and a BS in engineering and BA in economics from Princeton University.

Vicki Bernards , , , Vice President – Financial Analysis and Strategic Planning

Vicki Bernards leads the strategic planning, budget, and quarterly forecast process for TDS, and assists in creating strategic plans for its business units. She is also responsible for financial analyses of business cases and potential acquisitions, along with other ad hoc analysis for senior management.

Bernards joined TDS in 2001, and was most recently director of financial analysis and strategic planning. She previously held positions in internal audit and as an associate manager of business development for TDS' subsidiary TDS Telecom. She also served as a financial analyst for Famous Footwear.

A certified public accountant and a certified corporate financial planning and analysis professional, Bernards received a BBA from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

Douglas W. Chambers , , , Vice President and Controller

Douglas W. Chambers became vice president and controller in 2015. He is responsible for corporate accounting, internal and external reporting, accounting policy, tax compliance and accounting, and enterprise-wide shared services. Chambers joined TDS in 2007 as director of accounting and reporting.

Chambers came to TDS from Midway Games, where he served as director of accounting and financial reporting for four years. Prior to that, he held positions with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, where he was most recently a senior manager, for twelve years.

A certified public accountant, Chambers received an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a BBA in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

David D. Gillman , , , Vice President - Tax

David D. Gillman became vice president - tax in 2014. He is responsible for all tax matters related to TDS and its business units, U.S. Cellular and TDS Telecom, including advising on the tax consequences of transactions, financings, and business initiatives, and ensuring compliance with tax laws and filing requirements.

Gillman joined TDS in 1997 and became assistant controller - tax in 2006. Prior to that, he was manager of tax planning at Medtronic, Inc. for two years, and a senior manager at KPMG for nine years.

Gillman, a certified public accountant, is a member of the Tax Executives Institute (TEI). He has been a member of the board of directors of the Wisconsin chapter of TEI, and has served in each of the officer positions, including president in 2007 and 2008. Gillman presently serves on the board of directors at the international level of TEI and a member of the federal tax committee. Gillman received a BA from the University of Northern Iowa and a master's in business taxation from the University of Minnesota.

Kenneth M. Kotylo , , , Vice President - Acquisitions and Corporate Development

Kenneth M. Kotylo has been vice president of acquisitions and corporate development since 2003. His responsibilities include assessing the strategic and financial implications of new investments, developing business plans and valuations, negotiating deal terms, coordinating due diligence, and industry benchmarking.

Prior to joining TDS, Kotylo was an equity research analyst for William Blair and Company. Earlier, he served with Ameritech for nine years in various areas, including corporate strategy and development, corporate finance, financial planning, and business development. He has also held positions with Baxter International and KPMG Peat Marwick.

Kotylo is a certified public accountant and chartered financial analyst (CFA). He is a member of the CFA Institute (formerly the Association for Investment Management and Research), the CFA Society of Chicago, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Illinois CPA Society. Kotylo received an MBA in finance from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a BA in accounting from Michigan State University.

Laurie A. Ruchti , , , Vice President – IT Strategy, Quality and Application Services

Laurie A. Ruchti leads the strategic direction of TDS' corporate IT organization, focusing on providing excellent service and support to TDS' business units, U.S. Cellular and TDS Telecom, and corporate end users. She oversees the corporate IT quality, organizational readiness, service management, and architecture functions.

Ruchti joined TDS in 1986, and was most recently senior director of IT strategy, architecture, quality and security. She previously led TDS' IT application development and support and customer service and support departments.

Ruchti has a BS in business administration with a computer science emphasis from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, and an MS in business from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

John M. Toomey , , , Vice President and Assistant Treasurer

John M. Toomey was named assistant treasurer in 2005. He is responsible for capital markets activities, banking relationships, cash investing, enterprise risk management, and certain other corporate finance functions for TDS and its business units, U.S. Cellular and TDS Telecom.

Prior to joining TDS in 2000, Toomey was a risk manager in the treasury department of Sears. Previously, he was director of risk management services for Waste Management, Inc.

Toomey is a member of Pi Tau Sigma, the national mechanical engineering honor society; Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society; and Beta Gamma Sigma, the honor society serving business programs.

Toomey received an MBA in finance and accounting from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, and a BS in mechanical engineering from Marquette University.

Thomas S. Weber , , , Vice President – Internal Audit

Thomas S. Weber has been vice president of internal audit since 2016. Weber directs the company’s internal audit function and coordinates with the TDS Audit Committee in the performance of its corporate oversight role.

Weber joined TDS' subsidiary, U.S. Cellular in 1992 and has held a number of U.S. Cellular roles including vice president and controller and principal accounting officer in 2002; vice president of financial strategy in 2005; and most recently vice president of financial and real estate services in 2010. Prior to joining U.S. Cellular, Weber held various financial and accounting positions with Chrysler Corporation.

Weber, a certified public accountant earned a BS from DePaul University and an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management.

Theodore E. Wiessing , , , Vice President – IT Operational Services and Chief Security & Privacy Officer (CSPO)

Theodore E. Wiessing is vice president and CISO. He is responsible for TDS' corporate information security program, including policy, governance and compliance, as well as day-to-day information security operations. Wiessing also coordinates TDS' enterprise-wide security initiatives, and oversees the corporate project management and project reengineering and consulting functions.

Wiessing joined TDS in 2002 as senior director of IT application development and support. Prior to joining TDS, he held senior IT consulting positions with Accenture for a broad range of clients.

Wiessing has a BS in aeronautical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
