CHICAGO, Feb. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --

U.S. Cellular (NYSE: USM) and TDS Telecom, subsidiaries of Telephone and Data Systems, Inc. (NYSE: TDS, TDS.S), were recognized at the J.D. Power and Associates Customer Service Roundtable in Las Vegas as J.D. Power 2011 Customer Service Champions--two of only 40 companies to have earned this distinction this year.

To qualify for inclusion on this elite list, companies must not only excel within their own industries, but also must stand out among leading brands in 20 major industries evaluated by J.D. Power.

"Since we founded TDS more than 40 years ago, our mission has been to provide outstanding communication services to our customers," said LeRoy T. Carlson, TDS founder and chairman emeritus. "These awards speak to the heart of that mission, and demonstrate that we continue to see our businesses through our customers' eyes."

"The customer is a top priority, in everything we do," said TDS president and CEO LeRoy T. Carlson, Jr. "We are so proud of the teams at U.S. Cellular and TDS Telecom, and we will continue to improve and enhance the communications experience for all of our customers."

To identify the J.D. Power 2011 Customer Service Champions, J.D. Power evaluated more than 800 brands. Companies were identified based on customer feedback, opinions, and perceptions gathered primarily from J.D. Power's syndicated research, as well as additional, supplemental research. This group of 40 represents the highest-performing companies that deliver service excellence to U.S. customers--both within their respective industries and across all industries measured.

In 2010, U.S. Cellular was also recognized by J.D. Power for overall call quality in the North Central Region, for the tenth-consecutive reporting period.
